Turismo Miño
We set off on this circular route of approximately 7 km from the Parque da Rúa (Km 0) to the Estrada da Praia. We go down towards Praia Grande de Miño (990 m.), along the road to Perbes, and walk the length of Praia Grande until we cross the bridge over the río Baxoi (2.200 km.).
We let this walk of more than one kilometer along the beach impregnate our senses, bringing wellness to the soul, body, and mind while we enjoy thedune system of Praia Grande and the marismas do río Baxoi (marshes of the Baxoi river).
The dune system of this sandy area runs parallel to the coast and is protected as a habitat of Community interest in Europe for its biodiversity and geomorphological value. The Barron or reed that grows here helps to fix the soil and withstands strong winds and high salinity. It is one of the plants best adapted to mobile dune systems, such as those found here. We can see cormorants, different gulls, herons, and egrets in this area of open.

Just after the bridge, we turn right towards Bañobre until we find the signs with the detour to the Senda das Marismas do Baxoi (3 km.). We cross the tunnel over the railway and we turn right following the signs in front of the AP-9 bridge.
We continue along the asphalted road that runs between the railway and the motorway until we reach a fork (2,500 m.) where we turn left following the signpost, always parallel to the AP-9 motorway. This path leads under the pillars of the motorway bridge. We will see the entrance panel to the Senda das Marismas do río Baxoi (3,000 m.) very close.
The río Baxoi rises in Vilarmaior from the union of two smaller beds, the río Vilariño and the río Anduriña. It flows at f Praia Grande de Miño into the Betanzos estuary, forming the marshland that bears its name and into which the rivers Grande and Xarío also flow.

Themarismas do Baxoi are shaped by abundant meanders, where salt and fresh water are mixed. This is a sandy and humid ecosystem. Plants grow on the water, forming a large wetland with muddy areas that are flooded by the rise and fall of the tides. They are made up of reeds and silty bottoms that provide shelter and food for a large group of migratory and local birds. They have a high ecological value as they constitute a habitat of vital importance for marshland birds, which use them as a refuge.
There are many curlews, sandpipers, plovers and godwits, herons, snipes, and ducks in the reed beds. The passage season lasts from August to February, when the cold in the north of Europe becomes more severe and many of them travel south in search of warmth and food. This is the best time to approach the coast and its marshes. We can see from the path the different channels surrounded by typical riverside forest vegetation: alders, birches, laurels... A 150-metre wooden footbridge helps us to cross the flooded area. From its banks, we enjoy a moment of the tranquillity and beauty of this environment.
Enjoy the sound of the river, take your rubbish with you, and keep your dog on a leash at all times. You are in a bird-watching environment that can be stressed by their presence. Thank you for respecting the birdlife.

The path leads to the DP-4801 road (4.1 km.), where we turn right. We walk 200 m. to the Ponte Baxoi rest area (3 km.), in the middle of the Camino Inglés (English Way).
The Xacobean Pilgrimage attracted pilgrims from all over Europe who came by boat. Many came from the north: Scandinavians, Flemish, Scots, Irish, and above all English pilgrims, who established what we know today as the Camino Inglés a Santiago de Compostela (English Way). Among the main ports of arrival were Coruña and Ferrol. These two routes converge in the place of As Travesas (municipality of Carral), very close to the medieval enclave of Hospital de Bruma (municipality of Mesía), to walk together from here to the Galician capital.
Miño is located at kilometer 80 of the 122 kilometers of this route that starts at the Ferrol quay. We find Ponte Baxoi (4,100 km), one of the seven bridges, including the close bridges Ponte do Porco and Ponte do Lambre built by Fernán Pérez de Andrade O Boo. Ponte Baxoi is a charming medieval bridge with a single arch surrounded by a shady rest area with tables where you can get your strength back. It has also a fountain to refresh yourself. An enchanting place, perfect for recovering energy.
The Camino Inglés leads us to Miño village, less than 2 kilometers away. We pass the tunnel over the motorway and continue along the other side of the marshes. We cross under the motorway bridge (5 km.) and its exit road from Ferrol, passing under a third bridge next to the railway (5,400 m.). We continue until we join the Rúa Regueiro on our left (5.720 m.). We pass a small bend that joins Raxel Street. We go along A Carreira street with Praza do Parchís, the town hall building, and the church of Santa María de Miño until we reach the junction with the Estrada da Praia (6,320 m). We turn right to reach the Parque de A Rúa, the starting point of our route.
