Relaxing your mind
Located in the marshes of the river Baxoi and more than 1.4 kilometres long, it has a system of dunes with a wooden boardwalk that can be walked on at any time of the year.
Its extensive dune system protects the marshland area from the action of the sea and the wind, home to a wealth of flora and fauna.
In this first line with vegetation of the dune cordon of the Playa Grande de Miño beach, you can observe mobile coastal dunes with arron or reed (Ammophila arenaria), also called white dunes. Although this area is outside the Natura 2000 network, it is protected as it is classified as a habitat of Community interest in Europe.
Arenal without seasons

This area is protected as a habitat of Community interest in Europe.
The reed belongs to the grass family. It lives on the dune crests directly exposed to the sea wind and up to a height of about 50 metres above sea level. It contributes greatly to supporting the soil and allows other species to live on it, stopping the advance of the sand. It is one of the plants best adapted to mobile dune systems. It withstands strong winds without being damaged, surviving in dry, high salinity soils.
A beach for everyone
During the summer season, the Playa Grande beach has a wooden walkway accessible from the promenade to the seashore and a pergola to provide a comfortable shaded area for transferring from a wheelchair to an amphibious wheelchair when bathing. This inclusive service is also supported by rescue and lifeguard staff.
In the year 2021, the Grande de Miño beach, together with the A Ribeira beach, has been awarded the Q Quality flag by the ICTE (The Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality). A total of 12 flags have been awarded in Galicia, with Miño town council receiving the only two flags awarded in the province of A Coruña as certification of excellence in tourist services, landscaping and the environment.
Who is visiting us
Thanks to our climate with mild temperatures throughout the four seasons, we can enjoy our sandy beaches all year round for beautiful walks or to watch the birds passing by.
Many of them have travelled up to 2000 km to arrive, such as the black-headed gulls (Larus melanocephalus) that arrive from the centre of Europe, but others will travel several thousand kilometres on their route, such as the black-footed tern (thalasseus sandvicensis).
Seabirds are at their best during the Autumn passage (July to November) from their breeding grounds in northern Europe to their winte. Guardarring grounds in the southern Atlantic or the Mediterranean. The best days to observe them are stormy days, when strong winds force them to come closer to the coast to seek shelter. We can easily see a variety of gulls (black-headed, black-headed, yellow-legged and black-legged), cormorants and, more sporadically, shearwaters, scoters and terns.
The Meadow Pipit, the Linnet and the White Wagtail are also among those that can be seen during the winter on the sandy area or its dune system.
Some foreign plants are capable of spreading over large areas with great ease, displacing local species and impoverishing biodiversity. In this area, some of the most threatening are pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana), African daisy (Artotheca calandula) and cat's claw (Carpobrotus acinaciformis). Eradicating them is essential for the natural balance of their environment.
Take care of your environment
The proper use of beaches has an impact on the wellbeing of everyone. Miño has declared all the beaches in its municipality as smoke-free beaches, and has drawn up regulations for their correct use and enjoyment. Remember to collect your rubbish and deposit it in the respective containers for recycling. The only footprint you leave on the sand is the one of your feet.
From here we recommend visiting the marina, which links up with the Ribeira beach promenade, the Senda dos Sentidos and Ponte do Porco with its monument to the Andrade family in the middle of the English Way.
Miño has a multitude of sandy beaches of great quality: Ribeira, better known as the small one, Alameda, with spectacular variations in level between high and low tide; Perbes, or Marín and Lago of a smaller size.
