Turismo Miño
An undiscovered treasure
In the Fraga do Xarío you can enjoy small routes of 1.2 km of low difficulty along the network of circular paths on the banks of the river.
The river Xarío, flows together with the river Baxoi and the river Grande into the Bañobre inlet, within the Biosphere Reserve "Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras de Mandeo", an area of great ecological importance. The marshes of Baxoi are the core or most protected area of the reserve. It also stands out for its heritage importance as it has old mills and other traditional architecture. It is crossed by paths and routes of interest such as the English Way of St. James.
It has interpretation panels that show visitors the natural and ethnographic heritage of the area.
A place full of possibilities
It is the largest space of its kind in the municipality of Miño. Walkers, cyclists and sportsmen and women can enjoy this pedestrian area. It has great potential for its ecological, ethnographic and heritage values.
We will find riverside forests, surrounded by a humid and cool climate with species such as willows, ash, alder or birch trees, and areas of fraga or native forest with oak, chestnut, beech or walnut trees. Laurels and male ferns are abundant throughout the area.
The main circuit of paths marks the walking areas in a setting protected for its environmental value, keeping areas free of traffic to improve the biodiversity of the river corridor.
In the forge you can see the remains of the old Casa Grande de Os de Ginés, a 17th century property that had two ground floor mills with a house above them, and other buildings such as the stables that have not been preserved.
Let's take care of the environment
Pets are not allowed to run loose in this area as they pose a threat to the conservation of native fauna. There are no litter bins because any rubbish deposit attracts wild animals that can spread it all over the area.
We can observe some of the invasive species that are becoming increasingly scarce due to the different interventions carried out for their eradication, such as bamboo, plumachos or devil's fingers (squid mushroom or red star).
A place to walk, observe and conserve this natural heritage. We can sit quietly and listen to the sounds of the water flowing through the vegetation, or simply breathe and enjoy the breeze on our faces.
A route close to home
